My story: from in-house managing editor to freelance writer

Before I went freelance, I spent several years working in agencies, startups and, eventually, leading the in-house editorial team at CareerFoundry (an online tech bootcamp). At CareerFoundry, a big part of my role was building a content machine that could scale sustainably. We wanted to publish consistently, grow the blog, and keep delivering genuinely useful content to our readers.

I knew that kind of scalability wasn't possible without freelance writers…but at the same time, I felt VERY protective over the blog we'd built so far. The idea of outsourcing content creation scared me. Could I really rely on freelancers to understand our product inside-out (or at least write like they did?) Would we have to compromise on quality in the name of quantity? Wouldn't it be easier to just write the content myself?

Anyway, I got over it and, with lots of trial and error, eventually built a small but solid team of freelance writers. In the process, I learned a lot about what makes a great freelance writer and what a successful freelance partnership looks like.

Now, I'm on the other side, trying to be the kind of freelance writer I always wanted to work with. If you'd like to learn more about what I do, feel free to check out my portfolio or get in touch directly.

See you around! 😊
